Rockaway, Lincoln City, Pacific City, Cape Kiwanda

Now here is evidence of the dramatic geological event that brought about what America is today. Cape Kiwanda is great example. I was wondering what the hell happened here geologically and came to conclusion that angle of the rock sediment is about 45 degrees toward land... This tells me that this piece of real estate was formed when the North American shelf, plowed into the mainland a few million years ago!...the recent earthquake off the coast of Chile was part of the same shelf which still is moving ever so slow into the the mainland... the Andes are still growing in mass and height!!!

Now this may look like a small little sand dune....try climbing up to the top of it.. I made it up in about half hour stopping several times on the way up...once up there it was fun watch people climbing to the top... one gal literally crawled up on all fours the last 25 yards...oh watching city folk when they get to the outdoors is always fun...its is quite a climb as it is soft sand and it rises about 4oo feet in about 1/8 of a mile....soft white sand make makes climbing torturous, like what in the 'world possessed me to try to do this...its quite a physical achievement to get up there without blowing a blood vessel in the motor... I guess they did a good job on my heart at the
Southwest Medical Center in 2007....Coming back down is a breeze.. the kids love it. the the younger and the skinnier they are they make it look easy going up and down heart attack mountain....lol

Hiked around the this landscape yesterday!

Oregon Coast summer of 2010:
July 30th
Yesterday was the most interesting day yet on the road along the Oregon Coast this weekend....just when I thought it could not get any better....it turned bad...which I took in stride and things got better than it was before....go figure...slept on the beach at Cape Kiwanda..absolutely and positively the best spot ever...

Left Portland around 1pm, beat the traffic made good time on Highway 6 and arrived at the Coast at Tillamook..headed north on 101 and arrived a Jetty Fishery at Rockaway..
Went in registered for an RV spot..the girl at the register..takes my money and says for me to pick a spot and I do...she good with my spot and writes spot # 12 on my receipt and all is good. I set myself overlooking the Nehalem River flowing into the Pacific Ocean and 50 yards from the dock where one can drop a crab ring and catch any number of Dungeness crab in a matter of minutes into the water.....You could rent a boat or bring your own gear..awsome place really...
I have a couple of beers and talk with my friendly neighbors and it all looks hunky dory..

Just before 6pm, this middle aged woman walks up and taps on my window and says I am parked in her spot...I says I am parked in my spot and she can go talk to the people at the front desk... so her same sex parter parks their big ass motor home next me and goes in to the office... A few minutes later the general handy man guy to the place shows up and says to me that I would have to move on account that the woman had paid for 3 days and this is her spot... I disagreed...I said when I was told to pick a spot which I did so and there was no indication at the time that it was reserved by anyone.. The girl had acknowledged the fact and had written my spot # on my receipt... Anyway the thing escalated as woman did not want to stay alongside me buy wanted my spot... since by now the vibes were not good besides I am the only person of color on the property. I decided to pack up and leave!...which I did...the guy did give me my money back
as tried to explain his position but declined to hear out his explanation.. The family who was next to me and whom I had spoken with earlier was disappointed and asked me several times to stay and join them as they were planning on having a big crab feast and there would be plenty to go around... I respectfully declined and left going South on 101. Sixty miles down the road, I arrive in Lincoln City.. I head to Chinook Winds Casino... Like I said earlier...things now start to look better.. I sign up for the second sitting at a seafood buffet fit for a king.....Salmon, crab, clams, oysters, shrimp you name it..a bottle of wine to wash it all down with finally having this superbly marbled prime rib with horseradish and au jus, just perfect! Try my hand out a few hands of poker and neither win or lose anything of significance except time! And I have plenty of that.. Its the weekend...At around 10pm I decide to head back onto the highway going north again... when coming out of Chinook Winds the Shell Gas Station is to my left and since I have to make a right turn to go north, I believe I would be able to gas up the car on the northern edge of town.. the indicator on the rear view mirror says I have about 23 miles to go before I run out of gas...from trip down the highway, I am sure I will come up on a gas station before I go 23 miles..After all this is the Pacific Coast Highway, which hugs the coast all the way from San Diego to British Columbia.. Boy was I wrong!. I come up to convenience store which is open a few miles past the turn off to Pacific City. The young Punjabi bloke working the graveyard shift is helpful but he has no gas... and the only gas station open would be in Tillamook which is 20 odd miles north and the car says I have only enough gas to go 7 miles... He recommends that I turn back and head to Pacific City and there is Shell Station there which opens at 8 in the morning.. I take his advise and end up spending the night in picture perfect town on the beach.. there are people on this white sand beach with bonfires and drinking and partying all night long...Awsome...Awsome Awsome...just when I thought it was bad it turned to better than ever.....

I write this a the coffee shop named 'Stimulus' on the beach.. opposite a place called Pelican Pub and Brewary..at 10am...charging up all my electronic devices and blogging.... its called living the life......

wonder what is in store for me today?

Maybe I will paddle up to the rock right out in front of me and explore it a little bit and maybe I will catch a fish for lunch...!! I got a line, a hook and some glittery plastic worms....wish me luck...

Explored around Pacific City, very nice resort town I parked in right by the edge of parking lot of the picture above and stayed the night right there on the beach! awsome..lots of people had bonfires on the beach that night...I recommend this beach for anyone who is in love and want to spend some in a quite romantic setting yet there is lots of outdoor stuff to do.. and never more than a few hundred yards from all modern conveniences...including wifi...lol

St. Joseph's College is a Catholic educational institution in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was established in 1896 by French missionaries, with Rev Christopher Ernst Bonjean playing a leading role. The college has over 4000 students with a staff of over 200. Distinguished former students include Cardinal Thomas Cooray the only Cardinal from Sri Lanka, President Ranasinghe Premadasa and Niranjan Deva-Aditya, the first person in history to be born in one continent (Asia) and elected to parliament in another continent (UK). The motto of the college is "In scientia et virtute" meaning "In Knowledge and Virtue".

History

The college was opened in 1896 with 211 boys in the College proper and 96 in the Preparatory school. As the building was unfinished at the time, only one half of it was open to students, and for some time the voices of pupils and masters mingled with the incessant clang of hammers.

By November 1896 construction was completed at a cost of Rs.120,000, supplied one-half by the people's contribution, the other half by the donation of His Grace, Archbishop Melizan. On November 27, H. E. Mgr. Zaleski solemnly blessed the building which was formally opened on the following day by H. E. Sir Joseph West Ridgeway.

The school was not without its teething problems. Despite partial government funding a major share of the expenses had to be borne by the Church. The financial constraints were improved with the dawn of independence.

However a major setback was the government takeover of missionary schools in 1962, which led to the school being forced to function, until the change of government in 1977, without levying fees. Undaunted the College continued donations and scrupulous financial management. It is presently managed by the Archdiocese of Colombo.

The present college

The school functions as an "assisted school" with substantial state funding but mainly from its old boy unions worldwide

Situated in the heart of the city, its set of buildings cover 12 acres (49,000 m2) and comprise a sports complex, and a swimming pool that is built to Olympic Standards.

The school prepares students for local Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations in Sinhalese, Tamil and English Mediums. In 1996 the latest branch School of St. Joseph's College was opened in Enderamulla, Wattala, 15 km from Colombo. Another branch school that has become a leading Catholic school in the country is St Peter's College, Colombo.Previously known as St. Joseph's South, it was built to cater to the families in the southern part of Colombo who failed to admit their sons to St. Joseph's Colombo, which has now become their main rivals and compete in sports and other activities which are known as "Battles of the Saints" in Sri Lanka.

The College Anthem

Fruits of virtue and knowledge

Here we gather, peace and power

Symbolished in yonder banner

Floating o'er St. Joseph's tower

White and blue its mystic colors

Harmonizing strong and clear

Stolen from the distant mountains

From the wild waves breaking near

Harmonizing strong and clear

White and Blue our mystic colors

Till the mountains disappear
